XDS MVIP 8-Port 2/4-Wire E&M Line Interface Board The primary building blocks of the XDS boards are the Analog Line Interface boards. The XDS E&M boards are ideal for linking peripherals, such as adding wireless capabilities to PBXs, voice mail systems, and interfacing to radio transmitters. The 8-port E&M board is enhanced MVIP-90 compliant. It is available in a 2 or 4-wire configuration, and comes with Type I or Type V signalling. The MVIP 8-Port Analog Interface boards include DSP power consisting of eight channels of DTMF detection, eight channels of energy detection with call progress tones, and four channels of DTMF generation. The XDS E&M Line Interface boards address the inherent limitations of the PC architecture. Practically all analog telephone interface boards require a negative power supply of either -5V or -12V. PCs can typically provide only 0.5 Amp or less of either of these voltages. In order to avoid exceeding this limit when multiple boards are used, a local power supply located on each XDS board provides the required negative voltage. Because of this, port capacity is not limited, and you can build your application to the size needed. The XDS E&M Line Interface boards work in conjunction with the XDS Switch Matrix boards, which provide switching and soft hand-off between transmitters, along with the XDS Multi-Chassis Interconnect boards, which furnish seamless integration between chassis. Using these boards provides a full-service eXternally Defined Switching system. The XDS MVIP E&M boards utilize on-board intelligence to handle line control, supervisory and tone signal functions with minimal host intervention, so that developers may use their valuable PC resources for their application, not to control analog line boards. The XDS E&M boards are smart boards that do not need associated voice boards to function. For developers, this means easy implementation with fewer card slots. Yet when necessary, voice boards may be added via the MVIP to provide voice applications. The E&M boards are ISA compliant, and provide DTMF generation and detection as well as call progress generation. DOS, OS/2, UNIXWARE, and Windows NT drivers are available. Technology covered under patents 5420852, 5341368 and others.
